How Much Tea Powder Should You Use Per Cup?

Start with about two grams per cup, then adjust for cup size, leaf grade, milk and the strength you enjoy.

Use two grams as the baseline

For 180–220 ml finished tea, about 2 g is a useful starting point. Household teaspoons vary, so weigh your usual spoon once if you want consistency.

Grade changes extraction

Fine CTC particles extract faster than large orthodox leaves and equal spoonfuls may not weigh the same. Treat the first cup with a new tea as calibration.

Correct the cup methodically

For a weak cup, add 0.25–0.5 g or brew a little longer. For harshness, shorten the brew before reducing leaf. If milk overwhelms the tea, reduce milk first.

Questions readers also ask

Is one teaspoon enough?

Often, but spoon weights vary. About 2 g is the better baseline.

Use more tea with milk?

Sometimes, although improving water extraction or reducing milk may work better.
